A child's visual system keeps developing until the age of 8-10. Problems that go unnoticed during this period can lead to permanent vision loss. The good news: most issues caught early are fully treatable.
Check-up Schedule
- Newborn: Red reflex test at birth (done at hospital)
- Age 1: First comprehensive eye examination
- Age 3: Visual acuity and strabismus check
- Pre-school (5-6): Reading-readiness check
- School age: Routine check every two years
Watch for These Signs
Eye misalignment, sitting too close to the TV, frequent blinking or rubbing, headaches, and trouble seeing the board at school — if you notice any of these, see an ophthalmologist without delay.
